I know the subject of AI and generated images has been chewed over so often that you don’t even want to hear about it any more, but there are so many different opinions and also a lot of hate speeches between AI and NO-AI parties. There are authors who want nothing to do with it and other authors are grateful that there is now a relatively easy-to-use tool with which you can create cover images yourself. Apart from the right type of commercial use fonts, finding or generating the right image is not as easy as it sounds. You may have already realized it.
In my job as a cover designer I work with 3d and Photoshop, but I have also tried my hand at generating images for personal use. So I can well imagine what it means for authors who only have a small budget.
What I’ve been trying to find out recently is what authors REALLY think about the use of AI. Maybe even use it. Be it ChatGPT or generating images for covers and/or promotions. Google statistics and other trustworthy sources show that searches for AI-generated pre-made book covers are increasing. I would like to find out whether this is true or not.
Perhaps you could take a few minutes and answer a few questions for me. AI is a red flag for lots of us designers, but we won’t really be able to stay 100% away from it in the near future if we want to survive in our jobs.
This is just a survey for myself and anonymous, if you want! I only want to get some information on how authors think about AI, because AI can and will influence my future as book cover designer. Thank you in advance!
